Tinubu Lands in UAE Ahead of Global Sustainability Summit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, ahead of the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, reinforcing Nigeria’s engagement in global discussions on sustainable development and economic transformation.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu touched down at the Presidential Wing of Zayed International Airport at 11:30 pm local time.

He was received by the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan; the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi; Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar; and officials of the Nigerian diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi.

Further reception took place at the President’s hotel, where he was welcomed by the Minister of Budget and Planning, Atiku Bagudu; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Muhammed Muhammed, among others.

President Tinubu arrived Abu Dhabi from Europe, where he spent part of his end-of-year break and held what the Presidency described as fruitful engagements with Rwandan President Paul Kagame and French President Emmanuel Macron.

The 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, themed “The Nexus of Next, All Systems Go,” is expected to convene global leaders, policymakers, investors and experts to advance conversations on climate action, energy transition, sustainable development and inclusive economic growth.

The Presidency said the visit underscores the growing diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates, while positioning Nigeria as an active participant in shaping global sustainability agendas.
