Former Deputy Senate President Omo-Agege Resigns From APC

The former Deputy President of the 9th Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has formally resigned his membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a press statement issued by his Media Adviser, Sunday Areh, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the prominent Delta State politician confirmed that his resignation takes immediate effect.

The decision marks a significant shift in the political landscape of the South-South region, as Omo-Agege served as one of the ruling party's most influential structural pillars in the Niger Delta.

The exit was formalized via an official letter transmitted to the Chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in the Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, dated Friday, May 22, 2026.

According to the statement monitored via his official Facebook handle, Omo-Agege’s departure followed a strategic evaluation of internal operational dynamics within the Delta State chapter of the APC and extensive consultations with his core political associates and constituents.

The former lawmaker indicated that the alignment of his political objectives with the development of his constituency necessitated his exit from the ruling party.

In his formal notification, the veteran legislator stated that he would not assume a passive role within an organization that limits his capacity to deliver legislative and infrastructural advancements.

Senator Omo-Agege noted: "I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria."

He further extended his appreciation to the APC for the platform provided during his tenure as the nation's number-two lawmaker, adding: "I thank the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate. I wish the party well and have requested that my name be removed from all membership records, registers, and communication lists."

The statement concluded by emphasizing that Omo-Agege remains fully committed to rendering effective representation and driving structural development for Delta Central, Delta State, and the wider federation.

While his immediate political destination remains unconfirmed by his media team, his declaration that he will actively pursue these developmental mandates outside the APC indicates that negotiations with alternative political platforms are likely underway.
