President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, in Lagos inaugurated a Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilization for the All Progressives Congress as part of efforts to address internal disagreements within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development was disclosed in a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The committee is made up of serving governors, members of the Federal Executive Council and senior party stakeholders. Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, was appointed chairman, while Muiz Banire, a former APC National Legal Adviser, was named member and secretary of the committee.
Other members include Senator Adamu Aliero; Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq; Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma; as well as Governors Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Bassey Otu of Cross River, Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta.
Also listed as members are Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, and the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Buni thanked President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him and other members, assuring that the assignment would be carried out with diligence.
He said the committee would pursue inclusive engagement and long-term solutions to internal party disputes.
“The committee will engage in strategic engagements and consultations to develop an all-encompassing, productive and result-oriented strategy that will stand the test of time. We shall implement a system that gives everyone, especially aggrieved parties, a sense of belonging and inclusion, with a renewed hope,” Buni stated.
He added that the panel would also focus on anticipating challenges within the party, noting that “the committee will consider proactive measures, solutions, and the potential threats in our conflict resolution approach.”
Buni further cautioned members against prioritizing personal interests over collective goals, urging them “not to allow personal interest and sentiments to override the general interest and purpose for which this committee is constituted.”
President Tinubu had earlier emphasised party unity during the APC’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting held on December 19 at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
At that meeting, the President stressed the importance of cohesion and internal tolerance within the party, reminding leaders of the APC’s founding values.
Addressing party leaders at the NEC meeting, Tinubu said, “We must continue to be resolute that this democracy that we take in our hands must not fail. We say we are bigger. We are larger and taller. But it should now be in our hearts to be accommodating. That’s the only way we can be resilient, we must be tolerant.”
