President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the official postings of 31 career and 34 non-career ambassadors to various global missions and the United Nations.
The announcement, contained in a State House press release issued on Friday, March 6, 2026, follows the Senate’s confirmation of the nominees in December 2025. The move is a central component of the administration’s efforts to fully reconstitute Nigeria’s diplomatic representation abroad and strengthen bilateral relations with key global partners.
The list of non-career postings features several prominent political figures and former state executives. Notably, former Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has been deployed to Athens, Greece, while Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has been designated as the Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Other high-profile appointments include former Minister Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau to Beijing, China; former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Olufemi Pedro, to Australia; and Reno Omokri to Mexico City. The postings also see Femi Fani-Kayode deployed to Germany and Professor Isaac Folorunso Adewole to Ottawa, Canada.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency confirmed that the diplomatic process for the transition is already underway.
The statement noted: "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for the High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu. Similarly, France has sent the agrément for Ambassador Ayo Oke."
The Presidency further clarified: "The Ministry has also conveyed the nominations of the other 62 designated envoys to all the countries concerned, including a request for their agréments in line with standard diplomatic practice."
The career ambassadorial list includes seasoned diplomats such as Ambassador Muhammad Saidu Dahiru, posted to New Delhi, India, and Ambassador Haidara Mohammed Idris, deployed to The Hague, Netherlands.
These appointments are intended to provide administrative stability and technical expertise within the Nigerian Foreign Service.
According to the directive, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to immediately initiate induction programmes for the envoys to ensure they are properly briefed on the administration's "Renewed Hope" foreign policy objectives before their final departure to their respective stations.
