President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered an immediate security crackdown on the gunmen responsible for the deadly attack on Kasuwan Daji community in Niger State, directing the military, police and intelligence agencies to ensure the perpetrators are captured and prosecuted without delay.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, following reports of killings and abductions carried out by terrorists believed to be fleeing Sokoto and Zamfara after the United States’ Christmas Eve air strikes.

According to the statement, the President instructed the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, the service chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services to “track down and apprehend the perpetrators of the Kasuwan Daji attack, ensuring they are swiftly brought to justice,” while also mandating security agencies to urgently rescue all abducted victims.

Tinubu strongly condemned the assault on the rural community, describing the killing of villagers and the abduction of women and children as unacceptable acts of terror.

He also extended condolences to the bereaved families and to the government and people of Niger State over the tragic incident.

“These terrorists have tested the resolve of our country and its people. They must, therefore, face the full consequences of their criminal actions,” the President said, stressing that “no matter who they are or what their intent is, they must be hunted down.”

He added that “they, and all those who aid, abet, or enable them in any form, will be caught and brought to justice.”

The President further assured residents of Niger State that security operations would be intensified around vulnerable communities, particularly those close to forest areas identified as hideouts for criminal groups, as part of broader efforts to prevent further attacks.

Calling for national unity, Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain resolute and avoid divisive narratives that could weaken collective security at a critical time.

“These times demand our humanity. We must stand together as one people and confront these monsters in unison,” he said, adding that “united, we can and must defeat them, deny them any sanctuary, and reclaim the peace and security of these attacked communities.”
