Bola Oyebamiji has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2026 Osun State election following the party’s primary held on Saturday in Osogbo.
Party officials and delegates confirmed that a motion was moved nominating Oyebamiji as the consensus candidate during the exercise, with other aspirants agreeing to step aside in his favour.
A former governorship aspirant, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, presented the motion, which was seconded by Senator Babajide Omoworare and subsequently affirmed by accredited delegates from across the state’s local government areas.
The Chairman of the primary election committee, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, then announced Oyebamiji as the APC candidate after delegates expressed consensus support. “By the power conferred on me, I present to you Bola Oyebamiji, as the governorship candidate of our party.”, he said.
The primary, conducted through an affirmation process, saw participation by 1,660 delegates representing all 30 local government areas in Osun State.
The nomination followed internal party arrangements that had seen several aspirants, including Senator Iyiola Omisore and others, disqualified by the party’s screening committee for not meeting nomination requirements.
Oyebamiji, a former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, was subsequently presented as the party’s flagbearer for the 2026 poll. Party leaders at the venue described the process as part of efforts to strengthen internal cohesion and position the APC for the governorship contest in Osun State.
