Okpebholo Mourns Ekpoma Kidnap Victim, Orders Security Intensification

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has expressed deep sadness over the recent kidnapping and killing of a young man in Ekpoma, pledging intensified security operations to address rising insecurity and bring perpetrators to justice.


Okpebholo’s remarks came in a post on his verified X handle on Monday, following the incident that occurred on Friday, January 9, 2026, in Esan West Local Government Area, which has heightened fear and anger among residents, including students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.


“I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the kidnapping and killing of a young man in Ekpoma on Friday, January 9, 2026,” the governor said.


“This tragic incident is heartbreaking, and I extend my sincere condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and the entire Ekpoma community during this very painful time.”


Okpebholo acknowledged the widespread frustration the attack has generated in the community, stressing that every resident should feel safe in their own environment.


He said he personally visited Ekpoma to assess the situation and engage with community leaders and stakeholders.


The governor directed relevant security agencies to intensify patrols and operations in Ekpoma and surrounding areas to forestall further incidents and ensure that those responsible are apprehended.


“I have directed our security agencies to intensify operations, with immediate measures to prevent further incidents. We are working closely with all relevant authorities to strengthen security and restore calm,” Okpebholo stated.


Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to public safety, he said the protection of lives and property remains a top priority.


“I hear the voices of our people, and I am committed to taking decisive action. I stand with Ekpoma, and I will not relent until safety is fully restored,” the governor added.


The incident has also sparked protests and heightened calls for calm, with various stakeholders urging coordinated security responses to address persistent threats in the area.
