Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally joined Accord Party (AC), days after officially resigning from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The announcement was made during a ceremony at the Government House in Osogbo on Tuesday, attended by national and state leaders of Accord Party.

In a post on his verified X handle, the governor declared: “Today, we unveiled the Accord Party, our new platform for the good people of Osun State. From Osun West to Osun East to Osun Central, this is our party, our new platform for victory come August next year.”

He added that he joined the party on November 6, 2025, after weeks of discussions with stakeholders and opinion leaders, explaining that he had chosen a party whose philosophy of welfare-oriented leadership aligns with his governance agenda.

Governor Adeleke’s resignation from PDP was submitted on November 4, 2025. In the resignation letter addressed to his ward chairman in Sagba Abogunde, Ede North Local Government, he attributed his departure to ongoing crises within the national leadership of PDP.

In the letter, he thanked the party for the opportunity to serve, first as a senator and later as governor under PDP’s platform.

For its part, Accord Party has indicated readiness to welcome the governor. The party’s Lagos State Chairman, Dele Oladeji, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Accord stands out as a stable and well‑organized platform for any serious politician seeking a dependable structure. He stressed that Accord has no internal factions or “godfathers,” making it a suitable home for credible politicians.

With the formal switch complete, focus now turns to how Accord Party will consolidate its structures in Osun State and whether Governor Adeleke’s defection will prompt further political realignments among lawmakers, local government officials, and party stakeholders.
