Final Salute: Brig. Gen. Braimah, Others Buried With Full Military Honours in Maiduguri

In a solemn demonstration of national grief and institutional respect, the Nigerian Army on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, conducted the interment of the late Brigadier General Omo Braimah, Captain Azubuike Michael Esimai, and several other personnel who lost their lives in active service.
The burial ceremony, held at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, Borno State, served as a formal recognition of the "supreme price" paid by the officers in the line of duty.
The fallen heroes were accorded full military honours, a protocol reserved for personnel who demonstrate unwavering commitment to the nation’s territorial integrity.
According to an official statement published on the HQ Nigerian Army Facebook page, the event drew high-ranking state and security officials, highlighting the human cost of ongoing operations to safeguard Nigeria’s peace and security.

The funeral was attended by a high-level delegation, including the Executive Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum; the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd); the Chief of Defence Staff; and the Chief of Army Staff.
Their presence underscored the state’s solidarity with the Armed Forces and the collective mourning of a nation indebted to the courage of its military personnel.
In his tribute, Governor Zulum joined the military leadership in describing the deceased as true patriots who remained steadfast in the face of imminent danger.
The Minister of Defence and the service chiefs further noted that the bravery of Brigadier General Braimah and his subordinates would remain permanently etched in the nation’s history, serving as an inspiration for current and future generations of the Armed Forces.
The ceremony included the reading of citations detailing the distinguished service of each soldier before their respective next of kin.
Prayers were offered for the repose of their souls as the military community reflected on the profound sacrifices required to maintain national stability. The grief expressed by the families of the fallen served as a poignant reminder of the personal tragedies behind the nation’s broader security efforts.
As the interment concluded, the military leadership reaffirmed its resolve to continue the mission for which these officers gave their lives.
