President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles following their bronze-medal finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, commending the team’s resilience and response after missing out on the final.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the national team for recovering from their semi-final defeat to hosts Morocco and securing third place with a penalty shootout victory over seven-time champions Egypt.
The President noted that the Super Eagles showed composure and determination, particularly after the disappointment of Wednesday’s semi-final loss, which ended Nigeria’s hopes of contesting the final.
“Despite their good run during the tournament, the Eagles lost the semi-final match to Morocco during the penalty shootout last Wednesday, and our people's hopes of winning the championship were dashed,” President Tinubu said.
He added that the team’s ability to regroup and deliver a positive result reflected the national character.
“However, our players remained undaunted, and exhibiting the resilience of the Nigerian spirit, their efforts have now paid off,” the President stated.
President Tinubu said Nigerians would take pride in the team as they receive their bronze medals in Rabat, Morocco, describing the outcome as a fitting reward for their efforts.
“We will all be proud of them as they receive their hard-earned bronze medal on Sunday in Rabat, Morocco,” he said.
“Thank you, our gallant Super Eagles. Thank you, our national team players. This bronze medal surely feels good like gold.”
