The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, led by National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), on Saturday held a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Turaki arrived at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library with senior party leaders, including former Niger State Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu, former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang and other members of the party hierarchy, and was received by Ogun State PDP chairman Abayomi Tella before proceeding into the private meeting.
Former President Obasanjo commended the efforts of the Turaki-led NWC during the visit and urged the committee to remain steadfast in its work, saying the challenges confronting the opposition were not insurmountable and encouraging party leaders to “soldier on” as they seek to stabilise and reposition the PDP.
He also emphasised that party members should adhere strictly to rules and regulations governing political organisation.
Responding to the former President’s encouraging words, the Party’s National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the entire NWC.
“Your continued support and wisdom mean a great deal to us, Sir. Your advice and great counsel are always very helpful and we will rely on them as we work tirelessly to rebuild and unify our party.” Turaki said.
He added that the NWC delegates “came here specifically to tap into your experience and benefit from your invaluable perspective on both the party's future and the state of our nation.”
The meeting in Abeokuta comes as the PDP continues to navigate internal debates over leadership and direction in the run-up to future elections, with competing factions and organisational concerns at the centre of discourse within the party.
