President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday evening presided over a national caucus meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, bringing together senior party leaders, ministers, former office holders and lawmakers in a strategic gathering ahead of key electoral and organisational activities.
The meeting, which began shortly after 7:30 pm, drew top APC figures including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside governors, principal officers of the National Assembly and members of the party’s National Working Committee.
Addressing the caucus meeting, Yilwatda highlighted the party’s strengthened representation across Nigeria, noting recent defections of governors and lawmakers into the APC as evidence of a widening national footprint. He said the party’s numerical advantage in the National Assembly underlined the APC’s expanded influence and organisational reach.
“We now have the majority in the Senate and also in the House of Representatives,” Yilwatda said, emphasising internal cohesion and electoral readiness ahead of the 2026 Federal Capital Territory area council elections and future national conventions.
Yilwatda also confirmed that the APC has adopted an electronic membership registration system intended to enhance transparency, data integrity and internal democracy, urging stakeholders to support the nationwide roll-out of the initiative.
He said the party had acquired land in Abuja’s central business district for development of a new national secretariat and cited the party’s performance in recent by-elections as a sign of organisational growth, stating that the APC secured victories in 14 of the 17 contests it entered.
President Tinubu used the meeting to reiterate the party’s commitment to its ongoing reform agenda and to galvanise support for policy priorities aimed at national development. In his remarks, Tinubu assured caucus members that the government would continue to pursue initiatives designed to strengthen governance and enhance public confidence, including measures related to security, economic recovery and institutional reform.
“Our focus remains on building a united party that can effectively deliver on its mandate to the Nigerian people,” Tinubu said, signalling the administration’s intent to maintain engagement with stakeholders across the party.
Also present at the meeting were the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; the Chairman of APC Governor’s Forum, Hope Uzodimma; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; APC governors such as Monday Okpebholo of Edo, Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo, Usman Ododo of Kogi, Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Bassey Otu of Cross River, and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara.
Others include; Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Uba Sani of Kaduna, and Dikko Radda of Katsina; and formerly PDP Governors who defected to the party, Governors Peter Mbah of Enugu, Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Agbu Kefas of Taraba, and Douye Diri of Bayelsa.
Former office holders including Ken Nnamani and Anyim Pius Anyim, among others attended the party’s caucus meeting. Independent National Electoral Commission officials were also on hand to observe proceedings.
