Super Eagles Receive Promised National Honours, Housing and Land Documents

Members of Nigeria’s Super Eagles have formally received their national honours certificates alongside title documents for housing and land allocations promised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following their second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

The presentation took place ahead of Nigeria’s opening fixture of the new AFCON campaign, with players issued certificates for national honours, housing allocations in Abuja or Lagos, and land grants in Abuja.

President Tinubu had approved the rewards after the tournament, which was held in January and February 2024.

The documents were presented at the team hotel in Fez, Morocco, on December 22, 2025, by National Sports Commission chairman Shehu Dikko, accompanied by members of a federal delegation.

Those present included the Senate Committee chairman on Sports, Senator Abdul Ningi, House Committee chairman on Sports, Kabiru Amadu, Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale, Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Gusau, Senior Special Assistant to the President Mrs Nathan-Mash, Nigerian High Commission officials, and other dignitaries.

Speaking during the ceremony, Dikko explained the categories of honours awarded to the players.

He stated that “all players will receive the Member of the Order of the Niger, except Ahmed Musa and Victor Osimhen, who are awarded the Officer of the Order of the Niger, having previously received the MON, while William Troost-Ekong is awarded the Member of the Federal Republic for being named Player of the Tournament.”

Dikko further confirmed that the process approved by President Tinubu had been completed, noting that “the national honours, houses and land allocations have been fully processed, with allocation letters issued in line with the President’s commitment to rewarding excellence and national service.”

He also disclosed that similar rewards approved for the Super Falcons and the D’Tigers were at advanced stages, adding that “the title documents to the houses and national honours certificates are available for collection, while the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation are concluding the cash payments directly to the players’ accounts.”

The development marks the fulfilment of federal government commitments to the Super Eagles and underscores a structured approach to athlete welfare, as the team shifts focus back to competitive duties in their AFCON qualifying campaign.
