Senegal secured a 1–0 victory over Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 semifinal on Wednesday at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier, booking their place in the final of the competition.
The only goal of the match came in the second half, when seasoned forward Sadio Mané found the net, breaking the deadlock and ultimately deciding the contest in Senegal’s favour.
The semifinal was a tightly contested affair featuring tactical discipline from both sides. Senegal’s defence limited Egypt’s goal-scoring opportunities, while the hosts maintained pressure through organised build-up play.
Egypt, despite fielding a competitive squad that included talisman Mohamed Salah, were unable to create clear chances that tested Senegal’s back line.
Senegal’s victory ends Egypt’s campaign for an eighth AFCON title and extends the country’s run to another final, where they will compete for continental silverware.
This win continues Senegal’s recent strong tradition of deep tournament runs at AFCON.
