Chelsea Football Club have officially terminated the contract of head coach Liam Rosenior, effective immediately. The decision, confirmed by the club’s board on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, follows a period of significant regression in domestic form, culminating in a 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion that saw the club match a 114-year historic low.
Rosenior leaves the West London side in seventh place in the Premier League, having overseen a run of five consecutive league defeats without recording a single goal—a statistical nadir not experienced by the club since November 1912.
The dismissal comes at a critical juncture in the 2025/26 campaign, with only five Premier League fixtures remaining and an FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United scheduled for the upcoming weekend.
Despite an initially promising start to his tenure after succeeding Maresca, Rosenior’s tactical structure struggled to maintain offensive consistency.
The board’s intervention reflects a desire to preserve the club’s European qualification aspirations and arrest a decline that has seen the "Blues" fall from a top-four position to the periphery of the European places.
The club also confirmed that an interim coaching setup will be announced shortly to lead the squad through the definitive phase of the season.
