Revenge in Paris: PSG Put Five Past Chelsea to Take Massive First-Leg Lead

Paris Saint-Germain have taken a significant step toward the Champions League quarter-finals after a clinical 5-2 victory over Chelsea at the Parc des Princes.

In a high-octane encounter defined by attacking efficiency and critical defensive lapses, Luis Enrique’s side secured what many in the French capital are calling "revenge" for their 3-0 defeat to the Blues in last summer’s FIFA Club World Cup final.

A late brace from substitute Khvicha Kvaratskhelia proved decisive, leaving the London side with a monumental task ahead of the return leg at Stamford Bridge.

The match ignited in the 9th minute when Bradley Barcola opened the scoring, finishing a well-worked move to settle the home crowd.

Chelsea, managed by Liam Rosenior, responded with tactical discipline and drew level in the 28th minute through French full-back Malo Gusto, who capitalized on a rare moment of hesitation in the PSG backline.

The see-saw nature of the first half continued as Ousmane Dembélé restored the Parisian lead with a solo effort in the 40th minute, only for Enzo Fernández to equalize again for the visitors shortly after the interval with a powerful strike from the edge of the box.

The momentum shifted permanently in the 74th minute following a significant error from Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen. A misplaced pass under pressure was intercepted by Vitinha, who calmly lobbed the stranded keeper to make it 3-2.

As Chelsea pushed forward in search of a third equalizer, they were caught twice on the transition by the clinical Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Georgian international struck in the 86th minute and again in stoppage time (90+3'), converting an Achraf Hakimi cross to put the tie firmly in PSG’s control.

The 5-2 result places PSG in a position of immense strength, as they aim to secure their first European crown since their 2024 triumph.

Paris Saint-Germain will now prepare for their domestic responsibilities before traveling to London next Tuesday for the decisive second leg.

Chelsea must regroup quickly as they fight on two fronts, with their pursuit of a top-four Premier League finish remaining a priority alongside their Champions League survival.

All eyes now turn to Stamford Bridge to see if the holders can summon a historic comeback or if PSG’s march toward the final remains unchecked.
