Real Madrid defeated Atlético Madrid 2–1 in the Spanish Supercopa de España semifinal at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah on Thursday, booking their place in the final where they will face Barcelona.
Real Madrid took an early lead inside the opening 90 seconds, when Federico Valverde scored from a direct free kick, giving Los Blancos the advantage at the outset.
Shortly after the interval, Rodrygo Goes doubled Real Madrid’s advantage, finishing a move after receiving a pass from Valverde to make it 2–0.
Atlético Madrid pulled one back around the 60th minute through Alexander Sorloth, who headed into the net to reduce the deficit and keep Atlético in the contest.
Despite several attacking efforts late in the match, including opportunities from Antoine Griezmann and Marcos Llorente, Atlético could not force an equaliser.
The win sets up an El Clásico showdown against Barcelona in the Supercopa final on Sunday, with both Spanish heavyweights competing for silverware in Jeddah.
