Nigeria reached the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a 2-0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-final at the Marrakesh Stadium, with goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams securing their progression.
Nigeria controlled the match for long periods, creating several attacking chances and defending with organisation to prevent the hosts from troubling Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
Just after the interval, Osimhen broke the deadlock when he headed home a well-placed cross less than two minutes into the second half, giving the Super Eagles the lead and rewarding their sustained pressure.
Ten minutes later, Akor Adams doubled the advantage with a close-range finish after Osimhen’s involvement, effectively securing the win and a place in the last four.
Algeria were unable to convert their own chances into goals and finished the match without any shots on target, underlining Nigeria’s defensive solidity.
The result maintains Nigeria’s strong run in the tournament following a 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the round of 16, and sets up a semi-final clash with Morocco, the host nation that also progressed with a clean sheet.
Nigeria’s performance combined attacking efficiency with defensive discipline, reflecting a balanced display from head coach Eric Chelle’s side.
