Man City Reach Fourth Consecutive FA Cup Final After Late Comeback Against Southampton

Manchester City have made English football history by becoming the first club to reach four consecutive FA Cup finals following a 2-1 semi-final victory over Southampton at Wembley Stadium tonight.

Despite a resolute defensive performance from the Championship high-flyers, Pep Guardiola’s side clinicaly overturned a late deficit to secure their place in the showpiece event on May 16, where they will face either Chelsea or Leeds United.

The match remained tactically deadlocked for the majority of the encounter, as Southampton’s disciplined structure frequently frustrated a rotated City lineup.

The deadlock was broken in dramatic fashion in the 79th minute when Finn Azaz clinicaly turned and unleashed a 25-yard curling strike into the top corner, sparking celebrations among the 36,000 traveling Saints fans.

The goal appeared to set the stage for a historic upset, particularly as Southampton had entered the fixture on a 20-match unbeaten run across all competitions.

However, Manchester City responded with immediate offensive pressure following the introduction of Jérémy Doku and Savinho. The equalizer arrived in the 82nd minute when Doku’s low drive took a deflection off James Bree to beat Peter Gulácsi (Peretz).

The turnaround was finalized in the 87th minute as Nico González—starting in place of the injured Rodri—clinicaly fired a rising strike into the top-left corner from outside the area.

The victory ensures City remain on course for a domestic treble, having already secured the Carabao Cup earlier this season.

The focus of the FA Cup now shifts to tomorrow’s second semi-final between Chelsea and Leeds United, as the industry prepares for a final that will see City attempt to reclaim the trophy they lost in the previous two seasons.
