Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo was left out of the matchday squad for the Premier League fixture against Aston Villa.

The omission was confirmed when the club released its squad list ahead of the game, with Mainoo not included among the available midfield options.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has explained that midfielder Kobbie Mainoo was left out of United’s squad to face Aston Villa because the 20-year-old picked up a calf injury in training, ruling him out of the Premier League fixture at Villa Park.

Amorim provided the update during his pre-match interview with Sky Sports News, confirming that the absence was due to a recent training-ground setback rather than a tactical decision.

Amorim said that Mainoo sustained a calf problem in the last training session before the match and underwent assessment by the club’s medical staff.

“He got an injury in the last training. He went to the doctor, he’s got something in his calf. We are going to assess but he’s out of this game,” Amorim told Sky Sports News.

He added that the injury served as a reminder of the need to focus on controllable factors and indicated that he expects Mainoo to recover in “a few weeks.”

Mainoo’s omission from the squad represents another interruption in a season that has seen limited Premier League starts for the England international, who has featured mainly as a substitute.

His only start this season came in an EFL Cup match, and he has been competing for midfield opportunities under Amorim’s system.

The injury comes at a time when Manchester United are managing a stretched squad, with other key players unavailable due to international commitments and suspensions.
