Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of Wales international Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur in what the club described as a record transfer.

The 24-year-old forward has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Eagles and will wear the No. 11 shirt at Selhurst Park. Johnson is eligible to make his Crystal Palace debut against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.

Johnson arrives at Palace with a strong scoring record across domestic and European competitions. The Nottingham-born attacker first rose to prominence at Nottingham Forest, where his 19 goals during the 2021/22 campaign earned him the Championship Young Player of the Season award and helped Forest secure promotion. He followed that up with a double-digit goal return in his first Premier League season.

His performances earned him a move to Tottenham Hotspur, where he went on to enjoy a productive spell.

Johnson finished as Spurs’ leading scorer last season with 18 goals in all competitions, adding seven assists. His tally included the decisive goal in the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United, underlining his impact at the highest level.

At international level, Johnson is an established member of the Wales national team, having earned 42 senior caps and scored seven goals. He was also part of the Wales squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish welcomed the signing, saying: “I’m delighted that Brennan has joined us at Crystal Palace – an exciting young talent with an excellent recent record in domestic, continental and international football. We feel we are the perfect place for Brennan to continue his already impressive journey, and his arrival bolsters our attacking options in what is proving our busiest season to date, competing on numerous fronts including, for the first time, in Europe.”

Manager Oliver Glasner also highlighted the importance of completing the deal early in the window. “I’m really delighted that Brennan has joined the club. He arrives very early in the window, so credit to the club for making this happen so quickly,” Glasner said. “Brennan will give us options in our attacking play with his pace and goalscoring ability and with all the upcoming games he will be a valuable addition to the squad.”

Speaking after completing the move, Johnson expressed his enthusiasm about the next stage of his career. “I’m really excited and I’m really happy. Crystal Palace are such a great club, one that I’ve always admired,” he said. “It’s a great time for me to be here and join the journey that this club is on – I’m super excited.”
