Chelsea Football Club have officially confirmed the appointment of Xabi Alonso as the new manager of the men’s first team.
The 44-year-old Spanish tactician will formally assume his duties on July 1, 2026, after finalizing a four-year contract that ties him to Stamford Bridge until June 2030.
The executive decision concludes a meticulous recruitment process by the Chelsea hierarchy following a turbulent domestic campaign, establishing a high-profile, long-term leadership structure to guide the club’s next competitive cycle.
Alonso arrives in West London with a highly distinguished managerial pedigree, highlighted by his historic tenure at Bayer Leverkusen, where he masterminded the club's first-ever Bundesliga title alongside an unbeaten domestic campaign.
His coaching portfolio also includes foundational elite-level experience within the youth systems at Real Madrid.
According to the club's executive briefing, the sporting leadership prioritized Alonso due to his broad operational experience, technical game model, leadership attributes, and personal integrity, viewing him as a crucial partner capable of managing the multifaceted demands of a modern elite football department.
