Cabinet Shake-up: Tinubu Drops Edun, Dangiwa; Names Oyedele Finance Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a strategic realignment of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), marking a significant shift in the administration's economic and housing leadership.

In a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the Presidency announced the departure of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.

The most notable development in this minor reshuffle is the elevation of Mr. Taiwo Oyedele to the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Oyedele, a renowned fiscal policy expert who previously served as the Minister of State in the same ministry, is expected to bring his extensive background in tax reform and economic strategy to the forefront of the administration's fiscal agenda.

Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) has been named as the ministerial nominee and minister-designate to fill the vacancy in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

The transition process is subject to a strict administrative deadline, with the SGF directing that all handing-over and taking-over formalities be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Arc. Dangiwa has been specifically instructed to hand over his duties to the Minister of State in the Housing Ministry pending the formal inauguration of the new nominee.

Explaining the rationale behind the structural changes, Senator Akume stated: "These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda."

The SGF emphasized that the President’s actions are a valid exercise of his executive powers as conferred by Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
