Barcelona dropped points in La Liga after a 2-1 defeat away to Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena, a result that ends the Catalans’ recent winning sequence and hands three points to their hosts.
Real Sociedad took the lead through Mikel Oyarzabal’s strike in the first half, and although Marcus Rashford equalised for Barcelona early in the second period, Sociedad responded almost immediately when Gonçalo Guedes restored the advantage for the home side.
The visitors finished the match with ten men after Carlos Soler was shown a straight red card late in the game for a dangerous tackle, but Barcelona were unable to find a second equaliser.
The defeat halted Barcelona’s momentum, ending an 11-match winning run across competitions and narrowing their lead at the top of the La Liga table.
Before the loss, Barcelona had been positioned above rivals such as Real Madrid, but the result reduced their advantage in the title race and highlighted the competitive nature of the league.
Barcelona hit the woodwork multiple times during the match and had goals disallowed, adding frustration to their first league defeat in several fixtures.
