FC Barcelona have entered advanced club-to-club negotiations with Newcastle United to secure the transfer of winger Anthony Gordon, positioning themselves ahead of Bayern Munich in the market for the England international.
The strategic development follows a period of heavy speculation linking the 25-year-old with a move to the Allianz Arena, with the Catalan club now submitting an opening package valued at €80 million (£68 million) plus performance-related bonuses to accelerate an agreement reports Goal.com.
The acceleration of the transfer process follows a highly productive individual campaign for Gordon, despite structural challenges within Eddie Howe’s squad domestically.
The winger has recorded 17 goals across all competitions this season, including 10 strikes in the UEFA Champions League, placing him third in the tournament's scoring charts behind Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane.
However, the commercial and institutional stability of his tenure on Tyneside has undergone scrutiny; Gordon did not feature in Newcastle’s final six Premier League fixtures after returning from injury, a decision attributed by technical staff to a structural transition toward future squad planning.
"Barcelona are in direct club-to-club talks with Newcastle for Anthony Gordon," transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed via an official update.
“The player is keen on the move, but more clubs are also on it."
Newcastle, who originally acquired Gordon from Everton in January 2023 for a package worth up to £45 million, stand to generate a substantial capital gain on the asset, balancing internal accounts following last summer’s £130 million sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool.
For Barcelona, the pursuit of the high-pressing winger underscores Hansi Flick’s objective to inject elite transition speed into his offensive line, altering the club's ongoing assessment regarding the permanent retention of loan forward Marcus Rashford.
