Atalanta defeated Chelsea 2‑1 in their UEFA Champions League group‑phase match on Tuesday night.

Chelsea took the lead in the 25th minute when João Pedro met a low cross from Reece James at the near post and finished between the goalkeeper’s legs.

After halftime, Atalanta stepped up their intensity. In the 55th minute, Gianluca Scamacca headed in an equalizer, following a precise assist from Charles De Ketelaere.

Seven minutes before full‑time, De Ketelaere delivered the decisive blow with a low strike that goalkeeper Robert Sánchez only parried into the roof of the net.

Chelsea had early control and looked comfortable at half-time, but the match shifted after the break as Atalanta exploited space on the flanks and increased pressure. Despite late efforts from Chelsea, including a final chance from João Pedro, the visitors could not find a response.

After the match Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca reflected on the loss: “We had the lead and controlled the first half. We lacked the necessary composure when the pressure came.”

The defeat places Chelsea’s hopes of a top‑eight finish and direct qualification to the knockout stage under threat, pushing them toward the potential playoff route.

For Atalanta, the win strengthens their bid for direct progression and underscores their resilience in European competition, especially when recovering from behind.
