Arsenal returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 4–0 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday, emphatically re-establishing their position at the top of the table after a brief run without a three-point league return.
Manchester City and Aston Villa remained in chase as Arsenal moved seven points clear at the summit, with their nearest rivals yet to play.
Arsenal opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Martin Zubimendi headed in from a Noni Madueke cross, giving the league leaders an early advantage against a Leeds defence that struggled to contain set-piece deliveries.
Madueke’s influence continued when his inswinging corner was punched into his own net by Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow, doubling the visitors’ lead before half-time.
In the second half, Viktor Gyökeres added a third goal in the 69th minute, finishing a move created by Gabriel Martinelli, breaking his personal Premier League goal drought, and later substitute Gabriel Jesus sealed the scoring with a composed finish late in the game to complete the 4–0 scoreline.
Despite pre-match disruption, notably the late withdrawal of Bukayo Saka due to injury in the warm-up, Arsenal dominated in both phases of the game, maintaining defensive solidity while capitalising on set-pieces and transitions.
The result marked a significant response following a three-game winless stretch in league competition, during which Arsenal’s title aspirations had appeared under pressure.
The commanding victory not only halted that run but also reinforced Arsenal’s Premier League leadership. A sustained seven-point advantage provides breathing room at a critical stage of the season, with key challengers yet to fulfil their fixtures for the weekend.
