Arsenal reached the EFL Cup semi-finals after defeating Crystal Palace 8-7 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium.
The match remained level after 90 minutes despite Arsenal’s dominance in possession and chances in the first half, and it was ultimately decided by a lengthy shootout in which goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga saved the decisive penalty to send the Gunners through.
Arsenal had taken the lead through an own goal by Maxence Lacroix late in the second half, but Palace responded in stoppage time when Marc Guéhi converted from a set-piece situation to force the tie into penalties.
Both teams converted their first seven penalties in the shootout before Lacroix’s effort was saved by Kepa, clinching the 8-7 victory for Arsenal.
The result sets up a semi-final meeting with Chelsea, continuing Arsenal’s run in the domestic cup competition.
The match featured notable performances from several Arsenal players, and despite their strong period of possession and early pressure, they were unable to secure a win inside regular time, reflecting a tightly contested cup tie.
