Senator Iyiola Omisore has publicly endorsed the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election, reiterating his support during an interview on TVC’s program “Politics Tonight.”
In the broadcast, Omisore stated, “I believe that supporting a consensus candidate is in the best interest of Osun State and will strengthen the party’s unity going into the next election.”
The endorsement comes shortly after the APC governorship aspirants convened a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja, aimed at consolidating internal party alignment ahead of the election cycle.
Omisore, however, did not attend the meeting, explaining in his TVC interview that his position was best expressed through public support for the consensus process rather than participation in the gathering. He added that his focus is on ensuring cohesion within the party and fostering a collaborative approach to candidate selection.
Political observers noted that Omisore’s backing could influence party dynamics in Osun State, given his longstanding presence in the state’s political landscape.
The Senator’s announcement emphasised adherence to party protocols and avoidance of internal divisions, underscoring his commitment to promoting stability within the APC.
While the meeting in Abuja gathered aspirants and top party officials to discuss modalities for selecting the governorship candidate, Omisore’s decision to publicly endorse the consensus candidate without attending the assembly highlighted a strategic approach aimed at maintaining his influence while respecting the party’s collective decision-making process.
