Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the unresolved leadership crisis rocking the party at the national level. His resignation, confirmed on December 2, 2025, marks one of the most significant political departures within the PDP this year.

In his resignation letter addressed to the party chairman in Ward 2 of Ede North Local Government Area, Adeleke stated that the lingering crisis in the PDP’s national leadership made it impossible for him to continue as a member. He described the situation as “untenable and obstructive,” noting that the party had failed to resolve the internal fractures that continue to undermine its unity.

Adeleke thanked the PDP for the platform that enabled his rise to key political positions, including his election as Senator for Osun West and later as Governor of Osun State but stressed that the current turmoil had forced him to seek a new political direction.

The resignation came just hours before the PDP’s scheduled primary election for the 2026 Osun governorship contest, a process already clouded by uncertainty.

According to reports, the state chapter of the PDP had earlier expressed concerns that Adeleke might withdraw from the primary due to the leadership impasse that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has yet to acknowledge as resolved.

Political analysts say Adeleke’s exit further exposes the widening cracks within the PDP, which has seen a number of high-profile members leave in recent months. The development also raises questions about the party’s readiness for upcoming elections, particularly in states where internal divisions remain sharp.

Although Adeleke has not announced his next political move, sources close to his camp indicate that consultations are ongoing, and a decision may be announced soon as the 2026 governorship race intensifies.

The resignation is being viewed as a major blow to the PDP’s influence in Osun State and a reflection of the broader instability affecting the party nationwide.
